3043 St. Helena Highway, St. Helena
This property has a very colorful history. Napa Valley Family Homes became involved in this site after a large article in the local newspaper that described the deplorable living conditions of the residents. The tenants were living in very old trailers and camper shells with no sanitation facilities and shared running water. Most of the residents were migrant and permanent farmworkers. NVFH first proposed that this property be converted to shared ownership by the residents, each could own a manufactured home located on a permanent foundation. That proved to be very difficult and instead this became a family rental complex.
There are fourteen manufactured homes on permanent foundations and a small office building. There are three three-bedroom homes, three one-bedroom homes, and eight two-bedroom homes of which five are doublewide and three are single wide. The three bedroom units have two bathrooms and the rest have one.
These homes were trucked in and placed on their foundation in 1995 and Rural California Assistance Corporation, the State HOME program and the County of Napa Trust Fund financed this purchase. The total cost was $1.2 million dollars. It is now owned by Family Apartments and managed by NVCH.
A play structure was recently erected on the property.
