The Von Brandt Neighborhood Center is conveniently located between Mayacamas Village Apartments and The Courtyard at Oran Court. This property came on the market in 2000 and NVCH staff spent one year raising $300,000 for its purchase and renovation. The purchase was funded by grants from Queen of the Valley Hospital, MacDonnell and Headlands foundations.
Conversion to the neighborhood center was completed in June 2002 with CDBG funds and a Gasser Foundation grant. The first three years of operational funding was provided by the St. Joseph’s Health System Foundation. That grant has now ended and two neighboring properties, Mayacamas Village and Oran Court, pay resident services fees for the coordinator’s salary. Auction Napa Valley also supports this center.
This center is the hub of activities for the 75+ families living in this neighborhood, 64 of which live in NVCH managed apartments. There is a reading and toy library, computer room, classroom and kitchen. The neighbors plan and participate in a wide variety of activities from parenting classes, social events during the summer and holidays, English as a Second Language and art classes, after school fun and homework help for children as well as leadership training programs.
