Thirteen families with many young children live in this recently renovated apartment complex owned and managed by Napa Valley Community Housing. This neighborhood is located between Old Sonoma Road and Highway 29 in Napa. These rental apartments are three and four bedrooms and many large families with children live here.
Most of the residents have very low incomes and their rents range from $1,082 to $1,196, depending on their family size and household income. In today's rental market, these families might be homeless if The Courtyard were not available.
Before NVCH purchased this property in December 1998, this 13-unit complex was owned by an out-of-town landlord who did very little maintenance, and hardly any supervision of tenants. The units were in very poor condition and when a tenant asked for repairs they were usually ignored. The police were called to the property often.
NVCH, with financial assistance from The Vintage Bank, Napa National Bank, the County Trust Fund and the Napa Housing Authority, purchased the property and has completely refurbished all the apartments. New roofs, new paint, new lighting, new fencing and parking lot repaving have brought the complex up to code and good livability standards.
NVCH is taking strong steps to keep out any potential gang influence. The residents enjoy their proximity to the Von Brandt Neighborhood Center and many participate in the activities there.
